By law it is compulsory for everyone who drives a car on the road in the UK to have car insurance and this includes learner drivers. Initially car insurance for learner drivers can be very expensive. With little or no driving experience learner drivers are considered a high risk and this is reflected in their insurance premiums.

There are a few tips which learner drivers can follow to help reduce their premiums –

Small Car – When you are deciding on which car to buy try to get one which has a small engine and falls into insurance group 1 or 2.

No modifications - If you do make any modifications to your car then this could increase your premiums dramatically.

Speed Limits - Drive within the speed limits, if you get caught speeding at a young age and receive points on your license then this can increase your insurance premiums over the coming years.

Shop Around - Make sure you get plenty of car insurance quotes as prices may vary between insurers. If comprehensive car insurance is unaffordable then get some quotes for third party, fire and theft as well as just third party.

And remember once you have passed your driving test it is important to let your insurance company know.
