Congestion Charges

Congestion charges are fees for drivers who want to drive in heavily congested areas at peak times. The London Congestion charge is the most commonly known charge in the UK. The aim of the charge is said to alleviate the amount of traffic on the city roads, therefore shortening journey times for the commuters willing to pay the charge.

The scheme is also hoped to encourage commuters to use public transport which is thought to be a much greener method of travel and will help towards reducing pollution. Drivers who do not pay will be charged a penalty. For further information on the congestion charge, see Transport for London.
